BOOK TRAILER FOR WHITMAN ILLUMINATED: SONG OF MYSELF

Filmed and directed by my friend, filmmaker David Kessler. It also features the music of my good friend, Ben Warfield.

David really did a wonderful job: viewers at first will wonder where the book is, only to realize that they had been seeing it all along. David did a wonderful job with the pacing, as befitting a trailer for a book.

HENDRICK’S GIN VIDEO SERIES

Like playing Devil’s Advocate? Well, I’ve practically made a career out of doing so. I wrote, directed, and edited this eight-video series for Hendrick’s Gin, in anticipation of the 2012 Mayan Apocalypse. I was asked by Hendrick’s Gin’s agency to reprise my old role as an overdressed, supercilious delinquent-philosopher named Lord Breaulove Swells Whimsy (no relation to the character in the Dorothy Sayers books). My good friend and colleague Laura Baird (who also built this site) lent her audio editing and harpsichord skills to this task. The first video below is an introduction, followed by seven more videos, each refuting one of the so-called deadly sins (Lust, Vanity, Anger, Sloth, Gluttony, Envy, and Greed). All eight videos were completed in three weeks. I still avoid that part of the house as much as possible.

Envy:

Anger:

Gluttony:

Sloth:

Vanity:

Greed:

…and Lust:

THE HIDDEN RIVER EXPEDITION

These three videos document my three-day, forty-mile solo kayak trek from Mount Holly, New Jersey to Bartram’s Garden, in West Philadelphia. The expedition took place between August 4th and August 6th, 2011. During my journey I traveled on three rivers: the Rancocas, Delaware and Schuylkill.

This expedition was in part a stunt, but it was also a re-exploration of Philadelphia’s post-industrial waterways and their history. It was an investigation of the region’s terrain, which has been circumvented, obscured and altered by infrastructure–and how that terrain has reasserted itself on this infrastructure.

Day 1: Rancocas

Day 2: Delaware

Day 3: Schuylkill
